The funniest things was as we were leaving. A local guy was leaving the restaurant and gave his ticket to the valet parking attendant. The attendant proceeded to drive his Mercedes SL63 AMG 5 yards, parked it and opened the door for the guy! The car ended up further away from him that it started! Brilliant!

Wedding Anniversary
Today is our 7th wedding anniversary. I thought about buying Caroline some itching relief cream in case of need, but didn't get round to it! This was us with our sprogs on our wedding day:-
Tonight we had dinner at the Cipriani restaurant at the Yas Marina. We have been lucky enough to eat at Cipriani's "Harry's Bar" in Venice and also their Rainbow Grill on the 65th floor of the Rockefella Centre in New York (now closed), so I thought it would be nice to try out the new Abu Dhabi venue. It was lovely. The food was great (calamari followed by langoustine "scampi" for me!), the decor is lovely (I particularly liked the port holes either side of the bar complete with video of an ocean scene!) and the overall ambience was very nice. As the weather was good we decided to sit outside, where we had a nice view of the Yas Hotel ....

Trip to Bab al Shams
It is our 6th wedding anniversary tomorrow, so to celebrate we took a trip to Bab al Shams, a desert resort run by Jumeirah (as are Burj al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Hotel etc). The hotel is built in traditional Arab style, and has a very rustic, authentic feel. The facilities are excellent, we enjoyed the pool area particularly. The rooms are not huge, but nicely appointed with a massive bed!
The service wasn't quite as attentive as some other places we have been, but was nonetheless good (I am being a bit picky on this point). Also, the food we experienced was not up to the same standard as Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
We payed a visit to the Satori Spa, with us both sharing a room. The disappointing thing for me was being massaged by a bloke - it's just not the same and he got way too close to my crowned jewels for my liking! I had a Balinese massage and Caz had an Indian head massage.
When we returned to our room after dinner followed by coffee and shisha, my order of goodies had arrived in our room. Red roses for Caz and a chocolate cake. The bathroom had been showered with red rose petals - even in the toilet! So the nice, oval, double ended bath just had to be filled and used...... it would have been rude not to!

Trip to Jebel Dhanna
One night in the bar we saw this oldish arab man come in looking a bit agitated, his hands shaking (we thought maybe he had Parkinson's or something), but he went up to the bar ordered a double vodka and downed it in one! He then straight after ordered a beer and then necked that! A younger guy (maybe his son) came in a tried to persuade him to leave. They walked off towards the exit but a few minutes later he came back ordered another drink and downed it. His wife then arrived and the three of them sat down. He ordered another beer. Necked it down. He went to the bar and had another vodka! Then the younger guy managed to get him out to the car! He must have downed 6-7 drinks in about as many minutes! I'm sure he will be struggling to get up to morning prayers at the mosque this! Was bizarre to watch.
We were there for our 5th wedding anniversary. The flowers I had ordered duly arrived in the room which was good. 5 years seems to have flown by! There is no way 5 years ago we would have thought we'd now be in Abu Dhabi! Here's a reminder of the day!
On the way home we couldn't avoid some bad driving - it wouldn't be the UAE without it! First, in the middle of nowhere an oil tanker had overturned - no idea how!
Then on the way back we stopped at an ADNOC petrol station and as we sat eating our bought garage crap we saw a 4x4 leaving with a trailer carrying a quad bike or dune buggy. Nothing unusual in that, but the right hand wheel of the trailer had completely lost it's tire and was just running on the metal of the wheel! We caught up with it several Km down the motorway and I managed to get a video clip....
