And the big news of the day is......

A LuLu store has opened in Mohammed bin Zayed City! OMG, is this what our lives have come to when we get excited about the opening of a supermarket! However, for residents of MbZC/Khalifa/Mussafah this is great news, as we now don't have to treck all the way to Carrefour on Airport road (about an hours round trip for us) or to the LuLu at Al Raha Beach Mall which is pretty small. The Mazyad Mall (where LuLu is) will have a Brioche coffee shop, Applebees and McDonalds (oh bliss beyond compare!). Now when we just fancy a quick take away we won't have to put up with a crap chinese or indian from the Rainbow Grill/Hot Plate in Mussafah - which is pretty disgusting or a trip to Pizza Hut on Mussafah Industrial Area, where the the pizzas are even crapier. We are contemplating moving into the City when our first year's lease is up because living out here is somewhat isolated - however in a very small way our lives have now been uplifited by LuLu's, making at least one aspect of living out here more bearable.

  1. Hi Neil,

My husband and I are moving out to Abu Dhabi in the next few months and we are looking for a place. We have considered Khalifa and other areas like this. Would you advise to stay in the city as you feel it's too isolated? Any advice would be great! Thanks v

  2. Hi..like anything there are pros and cons. In Khalifa/Muhammed bin Zayed City you will have ample parking, new or nearly new buildings and if travel to Dubai is necessary then you will save yourself about 40mins+ on your journey. You will also possibly get more for your money spacewise. In the City the costs are higher, parking is a nightmare and you have the extra time to get to Dubai. However, we have indeed found it a bit isolated. It's just that if you fancy going out for a meal or a drink or even just to get a coffee, you need to get in the car and travel 45 mins into the City. If you are social animals then the City would definately work out better for you. It will depend a lot on your cirumstances though. 3. WOOHOO LULU! Me and my wife just moved to Mohamed Bin Zayed City from the U.S. in August 2008 and we totally relate to so much in your blog! We usually drive to the Lulu at Khalidiyah Mall for groceries (a better selection of our favorites than Carrefour) and we are so excited that there is one out here closer to us. I can't seem to find any reference online to where the new Mazyad Mall is exactly. Can you help out a fellow desert-dweller?

  4. I'm glad you share our excitement! We were just thinking that we could do with a few bits of shopping and it will be so nice to be able to just go up the road to get them!

So, not too far from Emirates National School is a group of apartment towers, mainly occupied by Etihad staff. LuLu's is on one side of the block where these towers are.

If you are still unsure , feel free to email me neilroberts01@yahoo.co.uk
